Retirement hobbies

Average: (0 votes; 0)

One of the many benefits of retirement is that you will have a lot of free time to spend however you wish.

Retirement hobbies benefit your physical, mental and emotional health and offer fun and interesting ways to spend some of your leisure time. Not only will you feel happier, but you will also meet new people and gain new skills.

Read on for an extensive list of retirement hobbies that you might like to try.

Play golf

If you would like to make sure you stay fit and healthy in retirement, taking up golf is a great way to do so. It will encourage you to be active but without being too strenuous. You can enjoy golf with your friends, partner or on your own.

Golf is an ideal retirement hobby for anyone who enjoys walking, visiting sites of beauty and learning new skills.

Join a book group

If you would rather exercise your mind than your body, why not join a book club? You will meet new people, enjoy interesting and challenging discussions, and expand your reading habits.

Volunteer

For those who can’t quite get to grips with giving up work completely, volunteering is a good way to keep busy whilst doing something rewarding that benefits others.

There are many different options. You could tutor children, be a puppy walker, get involved in local government or help out at your local community centre.

Volunteering will provide you with a sense of purpose, the knowledge that you are helping people, and the chance to form a whole new social circle.

Research your ancestors

Genealogy is becoming more and more popular. Use the Internet, local library and ask family members to find out information about your ancestors’ lives.

Put together a family tree that you can hand down to your children or grandchildren.

During your research, you may even find that you have family previously unknown to you that you could visit.

Take up photography

Photography is a great retirement hobby as you probably find yourself taking photographs a lot of the time anyway. Whether you take photos of your family, nature or holiday scenes; learning more about photography can transform your pictures into something to be shared, displayed and possibly even sold.

Build model cars

If you are patient and enjoy working with your hands, building model cars is a rewarding retirement hobby.

You can watch as your project develops and then, when complete, display your new model car.

Go fishing

As a retirement hobby, fishing is one of the most relaxing. Sit outside, enjoy the views, take a picnic and wait to see if you catch anything.

Have fun finding a hobby!

Remember, there is no limit to the number of hobbies you can try and get involved in. Have a go at as few or as many as you like and settle on the ones that provide the most enjoyment!
